COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)–Giant Eagle stores are recalling their Japanese breaded cod fillets due to an “undeclared soy allergen.”
The company said the fish fillets were sold from the seafood department inside Giant Eagle and Market District supermarkets through Feb. 4, 2016 and have lot codes up to and including Feb. 8, 2016. They are Giant Eagle brand.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The product is safe for consumption by those who do not have soy allergies.
The company said approximately 420 packages of Japanese breaded cod fillets were purchased by customers in Giant Eagle and Market District supermarkets in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The affected Central Ohio stores are
- Busch Blvd
- East Whittier in German Village
- North State Street in Westerville
- Refugee Road in Pickerington
- Britton Parkway in Hilliard
- New Albany
- Lancaster
- Lewis Center
There are no reported illnesses to date associated with this recall.
The fillets were sold from the seafood department with a UPC beginning with 268106.
Customers with a soy allergy who have purchased the affected product should dispose of it or return it to their local Giant Eagle or Market District store for a refund. Customers with questions may call Giant Eagle Customer Care at 1-800-553-2324 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST.
