Girl kicks and screams to safety after attempted abduction in Hilliard

HILLIARD (WCMH) — Police are investigating after an attempted abduction in Hilliard Sunday evening.

Hilliard police said an 8-year-old girl was attacked in the Lakewood subdivision at about 5:35pm Sunday. Police said the suspect grabbed the girl while she was playing in a yard on Joneswood Drive.


Police said the girl kicked and screamed until the suspect let her go. She ran to a neighbor for help and the suspect fled the area.

The suspect is described as a tall, skinny black male in his teens or early 20s. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and skater-style pants. Police said a vehicle of interest, a primer gray, older model Chevy work van with two work ladders on top was spotted leaving the area. Witnesses told police there was a male driver and a male Hispanic passenger.

Hilliard police said they are adding extra patrol to the area as the search for the suspect continues. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Hilliard police at 614-344-2554.
