PEMBROKE PINES, FL (WCMH) – A Florida couple is angry after they say their daughter was suspended from school for six days for using a child’s butter knife to cut a peach a lunch.
“There’s no one there trying to educate and to be reasonable to say, ‘Let’s work this out,'” the girl’s father, Ronald Souto, told WPLG.
The family said that her daughter only wanted to share her peach with others.
The middle schooler is a honor roll student, and her dad says she is always trying to help people and share things.
“This is a set of a spoon, fork and knife for toddlers — one year old,” Andrea Souto said. “It is made for children to learn how to eat properly. She’s used it since she was baby.”
Now, the school district says they are turning the investigation over to prosecutors for potential charges. A school spokesperson wouldn’t comment on the specifics of the case, but did say that the school followed district policy.
