MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – Police in South Carolina say they were able to find a man wanted in a double homicide because he was wearing a GPS device after an earlier burglary conviction.
Myrtle Beach Police Lt. Joey Crosby told local media outlets that 29-year-old Calvin Derrell Ford of Myrtle Beach was arrested Sunday and faces two counts of murder and weapons charges.
The charges stem from a Saturday night shooting following an argument outside a city fire station. A police report says firefighters heard gunshots and then pounding on the station door.
They found two critically injured men identified as 26-year-old Dameion Hakeem Alston and 27-year-old Marquis Jamal Burgess, both of Myrtle Beach. Both died later at a hospital.
Lt. Joey Crosby with the Myrtle Beach Police Department told WBTW police arrested Ford around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
Crosby says there could be additional charges in the future. According to the arrest warrants, witnesses say Ford got into an argument with one of the shooting victims and began firing off multiple rounds.
Myrtle Beach Police say Ford was on GPS monitoring by the Horry County Sheriff’s Department and the GPS unit confirmed Ford was at the shooting location at the time it happened but fled the scene after.
Ford is in jail. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.
