COLUMBUS (WCMH) — With 32,000 signatures in hand, leaders of Color of Change, an online civil rights organization delivered their signed petition to Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien’s office.

The group says they want change and they want it now. They are demanding an independent investigation into the deaths of Tyre King and Henry Green.

“We want him to know there are folks across the country paying attention to this case, they’re paying attention to what’s happening in Franklin county and in Columbus,” said Malaya Davis, organizer with Color of Change.

Tyre King, 13, was shot by a Columbus police officer in September. Henry Green, 23, was shot by police this past June. King’s family was also at the prosecutor’s office.

The group says O’Brien has failed to hold any officer accountable for King’s and Green’s death.

“There has not been any police accountability, we need some accountability in this case,” said Davis.

“If the petitions are requesting an independent investigation as opposed to an independent prosecutor, that decision is made by the mayor, safety director, and chief and not something we control,” O’Brien said. “If the request is for an independent prosecutor, statutes and court rules govern that process.”
