Heroes and Helpers shop with students

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus police officers are making the holiday season a little brighter for kids and their families this winter.

Police held their 7th annual “Heroes and Helpers” event at the Graceland Shopping Center Target in Clintonville on Wednesday. Officers went shopping with 29 local students, helping them pick out toys and other gifts for the holidays.

“The best part about this is just seeing the smile on the kids’ faces. It’s just priceless,” said Lt. Scott Bartholow. “This event here, the ‘Heroes and Helpers,’ is always the best time when we get to bring kids from the local school districts out and reward them for doing a good job at school.”

“I can tell my kid is really happy he got something that we couldn’t afford to give him,” said parent Daniel Cervantes. “I’m really thankful for them. I hope God will take care of them, everyday, every night, wherever they are. They just keep doing a great job.”

Police said the event is meant to foster strong community relationships by pairing officers with local children.
