ASBURY PARK, N.J. (WCMH)–An apartment in New Jersey exploded after fumes from bug-killing spray built up and ignited, NBC New York reports. 

The home exploded Wednesday after the occupants reportedly were trying to get rid of cockroaches. Two adults and a child went to the hospital, but were not seriously injured.

The Asbury Park Fire Department told the Asbury Park Press that a resident was spraying insecticide, got a headache, and opened the window.

Oxygen from outside the apartment combined with the fumes and a stove’s pilot light to cause the explosion.

The blast blew out the first-floor apartment’s windows, bent the front door and damaged the kitchen, NBC New York reported.

A fire department spokesman said the home was still crawling with cockroaches when crews arrived.

The American Red Cross is providing shelter for the three-story complex’s tenants.What others are clicking on:
