COLUMBUS (WCMH) — In a middle of a July heat wave, there’s nothing more refreshing than watermelon. If you’ve ever found cutting the fruit to be difficult, here’s a trick to try.

Start by cutting the melon in half, then cuts along the rind of each half, making sure to cut through the flesh without going all the way through the rind.

Next, sit the watermelon up like a bowl, and cut through the flesh, making sure to make it all the way to the rind without going through.

Now, you can slice along the edge of the fruit, separating the flesh from the rind.

Finally, turn the watermelon half over a bowl and dump the perfectly cut cubes inside.

If any pieces remain on the bottom or sides, simply use a large spoon to pull them out.

If you need help picking a good watermelon at the grocery store, try this advice. Look for a melon with a nice large buttery colored ground spot. It should seem heavy for its size and sound hollow if you tap it.
