PATASKALA, OH (WCMH) — There wasn’t an empty seat at a memorial service in Pataskala for Cindy Krantz Wednesday night. The nurse’s aid was one of three people shot and killed at a Kirkersville nursing home on Friday.

It was an emotional service. Krantz’s husband, parents and two sons among others shared stories about the beloved mom of five. We learned at the service that during the shooting she didn’t run away from the danger, she ran to protect others.

At the Vineyard Christian Church in Pataskala hundreds filled an auditorium to remember Krantz.

Her husband Chris said his wife was beautiful inside and out as well as a wonderful mom and woman.

“She is an irreplaceable person to my children and to me. I was blessed, privileged and honored to have spent our time together,” said Chris Krantz.

Cindy Krantz’s oldest son Matt Burnett said the support of the community has been overwhelming.

“I think that’s how I’m holding it together, all the people here I can’t believe it,” said Burnett.

He said his mom lived to help others and she died doing the same.

“I want people to remember her in her last moments… protecting the patients because she’s a caregiver and she loved everyone,” Burnett said.

Employees at the Pine Kirk Care Center where she worked said she saved lives Friday when a gunman started shooting.

“When Cindy heard the possibility of danger at Pine Kirk on Friday she didn’t think herself out of it, she didn’t run, she was our internal first responder,” said an employee at the nursing home.

Kirkersville Police Chief Eric Disario and nurse Marlina Medrano were also killed in the shooting. Visitation for Disario is Friday, May 19^th between 4-8 pm at the Grove City Church of Nazarene. The funeral is Saturday, May 20^th at 10 am also at the Grove City Church of Nazarene. Burial is scheduled to be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Lockbourne.

Calling hours for Medrano are set for Thursday, May 18^th from 3-8 pm in Newark at Reed Egan Funeral Home. A private funeral will be held on Friday, the 19^th.
