Husband, wife in jail after Hilliard drug raid

HILLIARD, OH (WCMH)–A husband and wife from Hilliard are in jail after police executed a search warrant at their house that turned up guns, drugs and cash.

Darrin Penley, 46, and Lassandra Penley, 40, were arrested and charged with felony drug possession Friday at their house in the 4600-block of Hillcrest Street South.

“This is a type of drug activity and crime that we do not want in our city,” Hilliard Division of Police Lieutenant Ron Clark said.

Clark said the arrests were part of a larger narcotics investigation that’s been going on for more than a month and a half. He said the investigation is continuing and there could be more charges against the couple or potentially other people.

“If they are selling drugs in Hilliard or have stolen weapons, we will investigate and we will arrest you,” Clark said.

One of the guns found at the Penleys’ house was confirmed stolen, Clark said. It was linked to a burglary in Hilliard. Marijuana and prescription pills were also found in the raid.

Neighbors on either side of the Penleys’ home didn’t want to speak to NBC4 on camera, but they said they were surprised to learn the pair had been arrested, describing them as a nice and friendly couple.

One man said that in retrospect, he had seen some visitors at the house. Police told NBC4 that’s something neighbors can watch out for and pass on information if they think something is suspicious.

“If they see a large amount of traffic at a location, strange hours, that cars are coming and going, they don’t stay for very long, they just come in, stay for a few minutes and then leave, that’s a good indicator that something might be wrong,” Clark said.
