ORLANDO, FL (AP) – A bald eagle rescued from a storm drain in central Florida has died.
The Audubon Center for Birds of Prey said on its Facebook page that the eagle died Monday night at a veterinary hospital.
The eagle had fluid around her heart or air in her abdomen, indicating other injuries. She was rescued last week from a storm drain where she had gotten stuck with another eagle, which eventually managed to fly away.
According to wildlife experts, the two eagles fell to the ground during a territory fight, and got stuck in the drain.
“It’s a territory fight, the eagles fight all the time, it’s probably female. I didn’t see yet but it doesn’t really matter, males females, they all fight,” said Dianna Flynt with the Audubon Center For Birds Of Prey.
