NBC4 anchor Jerod Smalley celebrates 20th anniversary with trip to Greece, special story on ancient Olympics

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — NBC4 is celebrating the 20th anniversary of anchor Jerod Smalley.

Smalley joined NBC4 in 2004 as a sports team member and became the Sports Director in 2006. In 2023, he transitioned to co-anchor of First at 4 and NBC4 at 5.

Currently, Smalley is overseas in Greece getting a glimpse into how the Olympics began. He shared a post on social media about his time at the station and his upcoming story about the birth of “the most important sporting event on Earth.”

“Choosing to join WCMH-TV has been the best choice of my professional life, mainly because this job has taken me across the country and around the world alongside some of the best human beings I’ve ever known,” wrote Smalley. “I had big goals and big dreams growing up, and I’m eager to keep discovering new, cool ways to meet those goals in Columbus.”

The post included several pictures of Athens and its ancient ruins and Smalley teased his upcoming report.

“Marking my 20th anniversary at NBC4 and we traveled a LONG way to do it,” said Smalley. “I’m in Athens. Not in Ohio. In Greece. I’m here to visit the sites of the original Olympic Games, modern and ancient. Coming soon in the lead-up to the Paris Olympics, I’ll show you how the most important sporting event on Earth found its footing.”
