CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio (WCMH) — A $1 million Ohio lottery winner did his best to remain calm after discovering he had won the top prize on a scratch-off ticket while still inside the store where it was purchased.

According to the Ohio Lottery, the anonymous winner bought his ticket at 5020 Gender Road in Canal Winchester, currently listed as Vibes Smoke Shop and Carryout.

Before walking out the door, the player was stunned by his big win on the $50 VIP Millions ticket.

“I was like, ‘Oh, my goodness,’” he said. “I scanned it again to see if that was the case, and it ended up being a good amount, and I went, ‘Wow.’”

Then, repressing the urge to scream or shout because of other customers, he quietly left the building and got into his car.

Ultimately, the winner will receive about $360,000 after settling on the $500,000 cash option and honoring federal and state tax withholdings. The annuity amount would have paid $40,000 a year for 25 years.

The winner told the lottery he is considering starting a business or investing his newfound wealth.

At this time, 42 top prizes remain in this game, as noted on the lottery website. The overall odds of winning are 1 in 4.02.
