Investigators are still trying to determine what caused a massive house explosion in east Columbus Friday.
Firefighters were called to the area of Atcheson and North 20th streets just after 8am Friday Morning on the report of an explosion. When they arrived, they found a house reduced to rubble. First responders and neighbors worked together to pull a man and a woman out from under the debris. Body camera footage shows the remarkable rescue of the man and the woman injured in the blast.
The woman has been identified as Vernice Hill, but the man’s identity has not yet been released.
Columbus Police say the home was supposed to be vacant, and they don’t know why anyone would be inside. Firefighters believe a natural gas leak may be the cause, but the exact cause remains under investigation at this time.
