From enchanting light displays to Victorian-era celebrations, the state has no shortage of holiday magic. For central Ohioans looking to explore, these Christmas-themed towns and destinations provide a perfect mix of nostalgia and joy.
Cambridge Dickens Victorian Village
Dickens Victorian Village in Cambridge brings the classic nostalgia of author Charles Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol” to life. Visitors are transported to 19th-century England, with nearly 100 Christmas “scenes” made up of full-scale figures engaged in festive activities of bygone years on display around town. This Victorian-style celebration, complete with carriage rides on Fridays and Saturdays, nightly light shows at the Guernsey County Courthouse and more, is an immersive trip to Christmas past.
Cleveland’s ‘A Christmas Story’ House
For holiday film fans, Cleveland offers the chance to step into one of the most iconic Christmas movies of all time. The Christmas Story House, located in the Tremont neighborhood, is a lovingly restored home from the film A Christmas Story. Visitors can tour the house, explore behind-the-scenes memorabilia, and even spend the night for a truly immersive experience. Nearby, the museum gift shop offers unique movie-themed souvenirs, making this stop a treat for fans of all ages.
Clifton Mill
The legendary Clifton Mill, located just under an hour away from Columbus in Clifton, is a must-see for its over 4 million holiday lights illuminating the historic mill, gorge, and bridges. The display runs every night through Dec. 30 and features a synchronized light and music show incorporating the old covered bridge. Visitors can also enjoy a “Miniature Village” and a Santa Claus Museum. A charming restaurant offers breakfast until 2 p.m. every day, and lunch is served until 3 p.m. daily, according to the website.
The Christmas Ranch in Morrow
In Morrow, The Christmas Ranch is a dazzling holiday destination with over 1 million lights synchronized to music. This family-friendly attraction features train and wagon rides, visits and pictures with Santa Claus, and charming shops filled with unique holiday gifts and decor. The holiday spot is open until Dec. 23.
Roscoe Village
Roscoe Village in Coshocton County invites guests to journey back in time with its 1800s canal town ambiance and living history tours. During the holidays, the charming village is decorated with twinkling lights, and free Christmas candle-lighting ceremonies are planned for Dec. 7 and Dec. 14. Santa will be available during the day along with strolling carolers, complimentary hot-mulled cider, cookies, roasted chestnuts, and other offerings that will add to the festivities.
Steubenville Nutcracker Village
Steubenville is home to the famed Nutcracker Village, where over 200 life-sized nutcrackers line the streets of the city’s historic downtown. Running until Jan. 10, 2025, this free, outdoor display is a visual feast complemented by a European-style Christmas market on the weekends with various vendors set up on Fourth Street and in the Gluhwein Garden. Live entertainment, parades, and other events are planned throughout the season, making this stop a memorable Christmas adventure.
