COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – The Columbus Air Show is returning with a weekend full of attractions, air performances, activities and more.

The annual show kicks off June 14, with gates opening each day at 9 a.m. at Rickenbacker International Airport through June 16. This year, the show celebrates the return of the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, which last performed in 2007. The air show will also showcase ground displays, demonstrations and several aerial performances by pilots.

“Planning an airshow is like having a wedding for 100,000 people, you know, and you throw in the weather and all that type of thing,” said Brenda Kerfoot, the director of operations with Herb Gillen Airshows.

Kerfoot suggests attendees wear sunscreen and bring sunglasses, and noted outside food and beverages are not permitted.

“In the general admission area people that have young children often I see wagons, their own portable chairs, blankets, kind of like going to a picnic. If you’re not in a reserved area I would definitely bring some sort of seating,” said Kerfoot.

Below is the general schedule for each day:

  • Parking lots and gates open: 9 a.m.
  • Columbus Cup STOL Drag Competition: 10 a.m.
  • Opening Ceremonies: 11:30 a.m.
  • Flying ends: 4 p.m.
  • Gates close: 5 p.m.
