BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (WCMH) – A massive barn fire that claimed the lives of 44 horses remains under investigation by the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal’s Fire and Explosion Investigations Bureau.
The fire occurred on June 8 at 8755 State Route 638 in Belle Center of Logan County. The Richland Fire Department, along with several units from multiple agencies were called to the structure, which was heavily engulfed in flames at around 12:18 p.m.
The structure, an approximately 60,000 square foot agricultural building, was being used as an equestrian training center, according to the Ohio Department of Commerce. A location search lists the address is a business for Brant Performance Horses.
Drone footage released by the Department of Commerce shows smoke filtering from the entire building after the fire was contained and the entire roof was charred from the blaze.

Several individuals were reportedly in the barn, though only one required treatment for burn-related injuries. The facebook page for Brant Performance Horses stated that the man injured remains hospitalized but is recovering.
It is believed that there were up to 50 horses in the barn, though around six managed to be saved and the Department of Commerce confirmed that 44 horses perished in the fire.
State Fire Marshal’s Office investigators, in collaboration with local and other agencies, continue to determine the cause of the fire.
