COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” will air the final episode of its 50th anniversary year this weekend, with host Scarlett Johansson and musical guest Bad Bunny.

While the show is known for its quintessential New York vibe, Ohio has often been represented in Studio 8H over the past five decades. Eight native Ohioans have hosted the broadcast, and two other prolific hosts consider the Buckeye State their home.

Ohioans who hosted ‘SNL’

Fred Willard – Oct. 14, 1978
Willard, of Cleveland, hosted during the show’s first years with the original cast on Season 4. The episode also featured Akron band Devo.

Terri Garr – Jan. 26, 1980, Nov. 12, 1983, Dec. 21, 1985
Lakewood’s Garr, hosted three times from 1980 to 1985. The musical guests included the B-52’s in 1980 and Mick Fleetwood’s Zoo in 1983. Dream Academy and The Cult both played during Garr’s 1985 appearance.

Ed O’Neill – Jan. 13, 1990
Born in Youngstown, O’Neill was the star of the hit show “Married … with Children” and the first host of the ’90s in Season 15 when he took the stage. Harry Connick Jr. was the musical guest.

Deborah Winger – March 24, 1990
Born in Cleveland Heights, the Oscar-nominated actress also hosted during Season 15, the first to cross over to the new decade. Eric Clapton, who has since made his home in central Ohio, was the musical guest.

Halle Berry – Oct. 18, 2003
The Bedford native hosted the autumn after her Oscar win for “Monster’s Ball.” Britney Spears performed as the musical guest.

Molly Shannon – May 12, 2007, April 8, 2023
Shannon, who hails from Shaker Heights, was an “SNL” cast member from 1995 to 2001. She returned to the show twice to host. Musical guest Linkin Park took the stage during her 2007 turn and Jonas Brothers performed in 2023.

LeBron James – Sept. 29, 2007
Akron-born NBA star LeBron James hosted the “SNL” season premiere in 2007. At the time, James was on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kanye West was the musical guest.

Travis Kelce – March 4, 2023
The Kansas City tight end, born in Westlake, hosted just off his Super Bowl win and romance with Taylor Swift captured the public’s attention. Kelsea Ballerini was musical guest.

‘SNL’ hosts who call Ohio home

John Lithgow – Dec. 7, 1985, April 11, 1987, Nov. 19, 1988
Lithgow was born in Rochester, New York, but grew up in Akron and Yellow Springs. The three times he hosted were all in the ’80s. Mr. Mister, Anita Baker and Tracy Chapman served respectively as musical guests.

Dave Chappelle – Nov. 12, 2016, Nov. 7, 2020, Nov. 12, 2022, Jan. 18, 2025
The Washington, D.C., native spent some of his formative years in Yellow Springs, before moving permanently to the Greene County village in the 2000s. Chappelle was on a post-election hosting streak until his most recent show in 2025. Musical guests performing on Chappelle’s episodes included A Tribe Called Quest, Foo Fighters, Black Star and GloRilla, respectively.
