WESTERVILLE, Ohio (WCMH) — A Yemeni coffee shop named after the world’s oldest skyscraper city has expanded with a central Ohio location.
Named Shibam Coffee, the Michigan-based brand is now welcoming patrons to the new shop in Westerville at 8310 Sancus Blvd., near Polaris Fashion Place. The Westerville location marks the brand’s first in the Columbus area, with another Ohio shop in Cleveland and others in Arizona, Texas and several in Michigan.
The brand is named after Shibam, a city in eastern Yemen known for mudbrick-made high-rise buildings and boasted as the world’s oldest skyscraper city. The company’s site says “each sip is a journey to Yemen’s historic coffee culture,” honoring “the essence of Shibam’s resilience and strength, bringing its spirit to coffee lovers everywhere.”

Each location’s menu features a selection of coffees, teas, espresso, and refreshers in flavors like dragon fruit and strawberry acai. Pastries include croissants, pistachio bites, a sweet caked soaked in syrup called Basbosa, a honeycomb treat with cream-cheese filled dough balls, and cheesecake.
The brand is opening in central Ohio as another Yemeni chain has also expanded with locations in the Columbus area. Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co., another Michigan-based brand, opened their third local shop earlier this year in Dublin, after the first opened in Hilliard in 2023 and the second last year in Lewis Center.
Shibam’s Westerville shop is opening 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday, 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday.
