CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (WCMH) — A burglary suspect is dead after being shot by a sheriff’s deputy near Chillicothe Monday afternoon.

According to the Ross County Sheriff’s office, the deputy responded to a suspected burglary call at a home on Pleasant Valley Road just before 5 p.m. The caller who reported the burglary said the male suspect had a gun.

A sheriff’s deputy saw a person matching the suspect’s description in the area of State Route 104 near the Chillicothe Baptist Church.

According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy confronted the suspect, at which point it is believed the suspect pointed a gun toward the deputy. The deputy then fired his weapon, hitting the man.

The suspect was pronounced dead at Adena Regional Medical Center.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation will be investigating the shooting. The BCI spokesman said no officers were injured in the incident.

The sheriff’s office did not release the identities of the suspect or the deputy.
