Authorities in Perry County apprehended two suspects in a Cleveland double murder Friday morning.

According to Perry County Sheriff William R. Barker, deputies with the Perry County Sheriff’s office and the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the execution of a search warrant carried out by the United States Marshals Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team at 13920 Township Road 59 in Mount Perry. Officers were searching for three suspects wanted on various felony charges in the Cleveland area.

Agents arrested James E. Hill, 41, of Cleveland, and Barbara J. Wolford, 30, of Parma, who were named as suspects in the deaths of Harold Emery, 63, and his girlfriend, Rita Berish, 54. According to NBC affiliate WKYC, Emery was shot in the head and Berish was stabbed to death.

Both Hill and Wolford waived extradition and were turned over to Cleveland authorities and charged with first-degree murder.

Authorities also arrested Jonathan C. Hill, 43, of Cleveland, for violating the terms of his probation. He is currently at the Southeastern Ohio Regional jail awaiting extradition to Cleveland.

Sheriff Barker said a fourth suspect was also arrested at the scene on charges of felony obstruction of justice but was later released pending the filing of formal charges at a later date. The fourth suspect has not been identified at this time.
