COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus police officers have increased security at Columbus City Schools after a series of threats made on social media.
“We want you to know that Columbus City Schools has a zero tolerance policy or the procession of weapons in our school environments,” said Interim Superintendent John Stanford.
City Schools officials and Columbus Police held a joint press conference Friday after officials say multiple threats were made on social media.
“They have been coming in all week long and some of them are repeat threats,” said Deputy Chief Michael Woods.
Authorities are not taking the threats lightly, beefing up their patrol around schools.
Parents at Eastmoor Academy where made aware of the threats Monday.
Concerned parent Michelle Nelms has a son that goes to the high school — she questions the district’s decision to not cancel classes.
“They haven’t even found out who is sending these threatening messages. It’s not safe for my kid and no other kid,” she said.
“I’m taking it serious and a lot of other parents are. There shouldn’t be no school until they find out what the issue is, period.”
