Columbus cooling centers to open, pools to extend hours during heat wave

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – With temperatures projected to be in the 90s next week, Columbus Parks and Recreation is extending its pools’ hours and opening five cooling centers around the city to help residents beat the heat.

The following cooling centers will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. beginning Monday, July 15, until the heat subsides:


The department’s scheduled activities at the centers will continue as usual. 

Additionally, starting July 15, the department’s pools will open daily for the extended hours of 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. until the weather cools down. The $1 admission will be waived during that time. The following outdoor pools will have extended hours:

Columbus Parks and Recreation stated capacity limits may be enforced, a free Leisure Card is still required for admission and proper swim attire is required.  The Blackwood, Linden, North Bank and Scioto Southland spraygrounds (interactive fountains) will also be open daily from noon to 8 p.m., free of charge.
