COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A 23-year-old man who is employed as a Columbus firefighter was arrested Wednesday in Lancaster and accused of owning child sex materials.

A release from acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Kelly Norris said that Carson Bigham appeared in federal court after being arrested in Fairfield County for alleged ownership and distribution of child pornography.

In a statement to NBC4, the Columbus Division of Fire said Bigham was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case. “Whether on-duty or off, our members represent this division, and must adhere to its standards,” wrote a Columbus fire spokesperson in a statement.

Cybertips were received by federal law enforcement related to possession of materials and alleged exploitation of a minor, per court documents. One report came from a messenger app regarding sending 13 files of child pornography while a second came from a hookup application.

Law enforcement seized devices from a Columbus man that was messaging Bigham on one of these sites, revealing the conversations to be sexual in nature and broaching the topic of having sex with minors, per court documents. Files containing child sex materials were also shared in these chats.
