COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — After seeing a sizable dip last week, gas prices in Columbus had a steady increase over this past week.

GasBuddy reports that Columbus gas prices increased by nine cents a gallon, making the average price in the city $3.55. This comes after a 15 cents drop last week. While the average price today is more than 16 cents higher than one month ago, the $3.55 average is 11 cents lower than at this time last year.

A major milestone in this week’s stats is diesel’s average price sitting at $3.72, the lowest average price since January 2022. The cheapest gas station in Columbus sits at $3.01 per gallon while the most expensive is at $3.69. This past week, the national average of gas dropped 3.2 cents to $3.41 a gallon. That is 11 cents lower than a month ago and 42.5 cents lower than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis Patrick De Haan, prices are declining in most of the country with the diesel prices at a two-year low. He says prices to end the summer season could dip even lower, if we can avoid certain weather events.

“As long as we can avoid a major hurricane threatening refineries in the Gulf region, I believe we could see declines continue into this week, with the national average potentially dipping to its lowest level of the summer,” said De Haan in a statement. “However, should economic data come in better than expected, there still could be a short-lived rally.”
