This year, the holiday is on May 26, 2025. Many central Ohio stores and restaurants will be open on Memorial Day, while a few businesses will operate with modified hours or be closed.

United States Postal Service
The USPS recognizes Memorial Day as one of 11 federal holidays and is closed. There is no mail delivery, caller service, or Post Office Box service. All services resume on Tuesday.

Locations are closed on Memorial Day and delivery service is unavailable, except for Express Critical.

Does Columbus’s trash collection day change after Memorial Day?
Yes, the color-coded calendar will move forward one day, since Memorial Day is one of Columbus’s 10 designated “no collection” holidays. The next time the color-coded collection schedule will rotate will be Juneteenth on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

The Central Ohio Transit Authority will operate on its Sunday service schedule on Memorial Day. COTA observes Sunday schedules on holidays, including New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
