COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputy was attacked by a dog after a traffic stop in the North Central part of Columbus on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were attempting a traffic stop at approximately 2 p.m. when the driver of the vehicle failed to stop. After a brief chase, the driver stopped near the intersection of Mock Road and Century Drive and then ran from the car.

As the deputy began to chase the suspect, a pitbull jumped from the driver’s side of the suspect’s car and attacked the deputy, biting him on the face. A second deputy on the scene shot and killed the dog.

The deputy was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.

The suspect was arrested and is facing felony charges. The sheriff’s office did not name the suspect or the charges they are facing.
