COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A house in the Hilltop neighborhood where illegal drug-related activity took place has been shut down by the city.
The property in the 300 block of South Ogden Avenue was boarded up by authorities after a court order was secured, said Columbus city attorney Zach Klein. Columbus police had been investigating suspicious activity at the house over the summer and fall as community complaints began piling up.
After witnessing heavy foot traffic in the area over a short span in September, police began to make controlled purchases of illegal substances. Six controlled purchases of crack cocaine were made by police over the fall while officers found fentanyl and heroin as well during searches.
Additionally, officers also recovered firearms during raids and found several people with active drug, theft and prostitution charges. City officials noted the installation of surveillance cameras for counterintelligence and saw code violations like overgrown weeds and trash all over the premises.
The owners of the property received notices before the shut down of the code violations, but city officials said they never addressed them.
