COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — An ice cream shop has expanded with three locations over the past year, including in Italian Village.

Johnson’s Real Ice Cream is opening its Italian Village store, at 869 N. Fourth St., in the spring. The store comes as part of Johnson’s doubling its number of central Ohio stores with the addition of Italian Village, Grandview and Canal Winchester locations.

President and CEO Matt Wilcoxon said that the original plan was to introduce one store but that the stars aligned to allow for three.

“Word got out that, ‘Hey, Johnson’s is expanding,’ and then we had some really good opportunities come to us from that,” Wilcoxon said.

The new location will offer the same ice cream flavors that other Johnson’s locations sell. Flavors such as birthday cake, raspberry cheesecake, cookie dough and more are sold at other stores.

“It’s a different location for us, but we still feed the same people we do at any of our other stores,” Wilcoxon said. “It’s still going to be a gathering place, a destination for people to go.”

Johnson’s has been open since 1950 and was originally based out of Bexley. All three new locations are expected to open in the spring. With existing stores in Bexley, Dublin and New Albany, Johnson’s will now have six central Ohio locations.

Wilcoxon said the Italian Village location should be open by the end of March.
