COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One person died after a shooting in South Linden on Wednesday — the third person who has died in five different shootings across the city since the day began.

Authorities responded to the 2200 block of McGuffey Road at 4:59 p.m. on Wednesday after report of a shooting, according to the Columbus Division of Police. Derrius Morgan, 30, was transported to Grant Medical Center in serious condition, where he was pronounced dead at 5:23 p.m.

The incident marks the second shooting in the Columbus area on Wednesday afternoon, and the fifth to occur in the past 24 hours. One victim was pronounced dead at 2:27 p.m. on Wednesday after a shooting at a business on the 1400 block of South Hamilton Road.

There, police said 55-year-old Vijayakumar Nair was found with multiple gunshot wounds and an unknown male was seen fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting.

Additional Wednesday police reports between midnight and 2:30 a.m. tallied one dead and two others injured in three separate shootings. In total, three are dead over the five shootings.
