COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — This Sunday marks Ohio’s first “4/20” with recreational cannabis sales, and Columbus organizations are itching to celebrate.
April 20, or 4/20, is marijuana’s high holiday. According to the Associated Press, the term “420” is generally agreed to come from a group of San Rafael High Schoolers who called themselves “the Waldos.” The Waldos would meet at a statue of chemist Louis Pasteur every day at 4:20 p.m. to smoke a joint and search for a patch of weed, and the term took off from there.

Amplify dispensary is running several deals and giving away apparel to celebrate. An Amplify representative told NBC4 preorders begin Thursday , with sales lasting through Sunday. Amplify customers can enjoy deals on gummies, flower, pods and free Amplify hats with any purchase.

The Landing Dispensary is offering 42.0% off Firelands Scientific and Heir items throughout the weekend.

The first 50 in-store customers are eligible for three major deals, but visitors throughout the day can enjoy 40% off flower, 30% off edibles and resin products, and select four items for $20 each.

Events
420 Gala at The Kee
The Kee, April 19 from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on April 20.
The event seeks to “celebrate the countdown to 4/20 in a way that’s as unforgettable as New Year’s Eve.” Attendees can choose from $50 general admission tickets or $100 VIP tickets to enjoy a variety of art shows, vendors, games and and samples. The 420 gala will include rolling competitions, a curated munchies menu, vape and edible samples, and even pop-up tattoo stands.
420 Brunch, BLUNTZ and Mimosas Day party
The Social Club Lounge and Event Venue, April 20 from 3-7 p.m.
The event is billed as a laid-back gathering with brunch food, refreshing mimosas and hand-rolled blunts. A $20 ticket includes a mimosa or gram of weed to enjoy the games, music and more, and a $50 ticket includes brunch with the other benefits.
Half Baked: Four Days of 420
Half Baked Taproom and Warehouse, beginning at 4:20 p.m. from April 17 through April 20
Half Baked combines organic beer, a smoke shop and eclectic nightclub aesthetic on a normal week, but is taking things up a notch with four days of events for 420. Online RSVPs are free, but do not guarantee entry.
- April 17, Taproom on High Street: Half Baked will debut new merchandise before “stoner karaoke” at 9 p.m. Winners will receive ready-to-plant cannabis.
- April 18, Warehouse on East Hudson and Taproom: Half Baked’s fourth-annual “Anti Award Award Show” will kick off at 9 p.m. at the warehouse, followed by a taproom afterparty with complimentary Astral tequila.
- April 19, Warehouse and Taproom: A ticketed Invanity Visual Arts Show and Rave will start at 8 p.m. at the warehouse, followed by a midnight THC champagne toast at the taproom.
- April 20, Taproom: A $420 skateboarding cash grab will start at 4:20 p.m., kicking off a night of complimentary Hennessy. At 8 p.m., attendees can enjoy a joint rolling contest, followed by a “Secret Show” at 9 p.m.
