COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — National Donut Day is celebrated on the first Friday of June each year. This year it falls on Friday, June 6.

What is National Donut Day?

According to The Salvation Army, National Donut Day was established to honor The Salvation Army’s “Donut Lassies,” who traveled to the front lines in WWI in 1917, where they provided essential supplies and made doughnuts for troops to boost morale. The first Donut Day was held in 1938 as a fundraiser during the Great Depression.

Amy’s Donuts

Donna’s Delicious Dozen

Donna’s is introducing its Dubai chocolate doughnut with pistachio, chocolate and strawberries, which will be available on Friday, June 6.

Buckeye Donuts and Salvation Army in Central Ohio

On Friday, June 6, 7 to 9 a.m., the Salvation Army will distribute free doughnuts from Buckeye Donuts in front of Huntington Center, across from the Statehouse.

Duck Donuts

Guests are invited to join the party at any Duck Donuts location on Friday, June 6, for one free cinnamon sugar doughnut per guest, no purchase necessary, in-store only. In addition, guests can purchase a half dozen cinnamon sugar doughnuts for just $6 and receive $1 off a medium hot or iced coffee, available in-store and online.

Dunkin’

For the 15th year in a row, Dunkin’ will offer a free doughnut with any beverage purchase. Dunkin’ is also debuting a limited-edition collaboration with luxury lifestyle and accessories brand Stoney Clover Lane.

Krispy Kreme
• Multiple locations
On Friday, guests can receive any doughnut for free with no purchase necessary. Also, all guests can purchase a dozen Original Glazed doughnuts for just $2 with any dozen at the regular price, valid in-store and via drive-thru at participating Krispy Kreme shops.

Sheetz
• Multiple locations
Available from June 6 to 10, Sheetz customers can get any flavored doughnut in the bakery case by purchasing a Sheetz Fountain drink, Sheetz Bros Coffee, or a bottled beverage. Valid at all Sheetz’s 770+ locations under the OFFERZ tab on the Sheetz app. One per customer.

Giant Eagle

Giant Eagle customers can get a dozen freshly baked doughnuts for $6, while supplies last.
