COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One person is dead and two others were hospitalized after they were struck by a vehicle along Interstate 270 Tuesday night.

According to a Columbus police, the crash happened at approximately 9:58 p.m. on the southbound side of I-270 south of the East Broad Street exit. Police said that a three people were standing next to a Mercedes Benz, which was stopped along the shoulder of the highway when a 2008-to-2012 Chevrolet Malibu struck one of the men.

The impact knocked 54-year-old Rafat Juaidi into the Mercedes Benz, and then into the two other men standing in front of the vehicle. All three were taken to an area hospital, where Juaidi was pronounced dead a short time later.

The other two victims are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Malibu, which was identified by parts left at the scene, reportedly fled the area. Police said that it will have right, front damage to it.
