One dead after multi-vehicle crash in east Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Police are searching for the drivers of two vehicles who ran from the scene after a deadly crash along E. Broad Street Monday night.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, at about 9:32 p.m., a Dodge Charger and a Dodge Challenger were traveling at a high rate of speed, eastbound on E. Broad Street near Brice Road, when the Charger struck the rear of a Kia Sportage that was also traveling eastbound.

Police say the collision sent both vehicles off the right side of the roadway into a ditch, and caused the Challenger to lose control, which then struck a Lincoln Town Car that was also traveling eastbound.

The Towncar then traveled towards Shadymere Lane before it became airborne and struck a Ford Mustang that was stopped. The Challenger struck a utility pole in the intersection before coming to a stop.

The driver of the Towncar was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Sportage was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. The driver of the Mustang was stable when transported to the hospital.

According to police, the driver of the Charger and the Challenger both ran from the scene after the crash, with the driver of the Charger grabbing two children from the vehicle before fleeing.

Police continue to investigate and ask anyone with information to call the Columbus Division of Police at 614-645-4767 Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
