COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Two people are dead after a shooting Wednesday afternoon in southeast Columbus near Groveport.
According to Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert, officers responded to the 4100 block of Blakewell Lane West just after 4:30 p.m. on reports of a shooting.
One victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:43 p.m. while a second victim was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead at 5:04 p.m. On Thursday morning, the victims were identified as 42-year-old Antwan Lewis and 31-year-old Harold Forrest III.
Neighbors, such as Vickie Pierce, said they’re shocked this happened in their usually safe complex.
“It’s been real quiet and the neighbors are nice,” Pierce said. “I haven’t had problems with anyone.”
Police believe the person who found them had a relationship with one of the victims, though Sgt. Albert said there is no suspect information at this time.
“I don’t know if that is through marriage, if that’s boyfriend-girlfriend, or just acquaintance, but knew one of the victims and located that male inside,” Albert said.
Columbus Police are still working to piece together what led up to the shooting.
“Our detectives are going to be going door to door,” Albert said. “We’re going to be talking to the caller that called this in, talking to family members to see if there’s any potential motives that would help us develop a suspect. They’ll be looking for surveillance images, any cameras that are in the area. I know we have some businesses up and down the road here.”
Columbus Police are asking anybody who lives in the area or that might have information about this shooting to call their homicide unit at (614) 645-4730. Individuals that wish to remain anonymous can also call Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
