COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One person is dead after a shooting overnight Saturday in east Columbus.
A police dispatcher said that officers went to the 2900 block of Dana Drive just in the Broadleigh area just before 1:45 a.m. on reports of a shooting. A man was found at the scene with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene at 1:59 a.m. The name of the victim is being withheld at this time.
Columbus police said in an update that the victim, later identified as 44-year-old Robert “Roderick” Smith, was sitting in a parked van at an apartment complex when he was shot. Witnesses told police the suspect fled east on Dane Drive to North Gould Road. Whether the suspect fled on foot or in a vehicle is unclear at this time.
