COLUMBUS (WCMH) – A person has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being struck twice by separate vehicles while on an east Columbus road late Wednesday night.

According to a Columbus police incident report, a person was attempting to cross Refugee Road, near the Tennyson Boulevard intersection in the Eastland area. A grey Chrysler 300 was traveling westbound on Refugee Road at around 11:35 p.m. when it struck the adult pedestrian.

The pedestrian reportedly fell to the pavement and was lying in the adjacent westbound lane. Police said there is not a crosswalk at the location where the person was struck, and the driver of the Chrysler stopped immediately and remained at the scene.

A few moments later, an unidentified car, also heading westbound on Refugee Road, drove past the stopped Chrysler and ran over the pedestrian in the adjacent lane. The second vehicle did not stop and fled the scene.

The victim was taken to Mount Carmel East hospital with life-threatening conditions and remains critical as of Thursday morning.

The Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation, which is ongoing. Police ask anyone with information on the unidentified vehicle or its driver to call the AIU at 614-645-4767 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
