Police investigating deadly shooting as a murder, suicide in northeast Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Columbus police are investigating a deadly shooting that left two people dead late Monday night in northeast Columbus.

According to officers at the scene, two people, and man and a woman, were found dead at a home on Pine Rise Court in the Northern Woods neighborhood, near Cooper Road. Police were called to the scene at around 11:15 p.m. Monday and both victims were found dead with gunshot wounds.


Police have since identified the woman as 41-year-old Nicole Pannell, who was found inside the basement of the home. The deceased male was later identified as 31-year-old Kristian Hives, and is considered the suspect, according to a release by CPD. He was found unresponsive in the backyard.

The shooting is being investigated as a murder-suicide, police said, the fourth such kind over the last three weeks, and according to the most recent homicide stats, it is the 16th domestic homicide this year, as of Aug. 9.

The most recent domestic homicides occurred on Aug. 20, Aug. 22 and Aug. 25. Another death occurred on Aug. 30 in Licking County when police shot a man who was threatening to kill his wife.

Police did not reveal what may have led to Monday’s shooting and are continuing to investigate the scene.
