COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A seven-story building on the Scioto Peninsula with over 100 apartments can move forward with construction.
The mixed-use development — approved recently by the Downtown Commission — is part of a $290 million project called The Peninsula Phase II. Once finished, it will occupy the vacant 336 Rush Alley lot at Capital Street and Highwater Alley.
The proposal calls for a mixed-use building with 135 residential units and 5,000 square feet of commercial space on the first two floors. Residential units include studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. A deck on the third floor with a pool and co-working space for tenants is also planned.
At a December meeting, the commission expressed general support for the proposal but with some recommendations. The applicant made changes leading up to its approval in May.
Indianapolis-based Flaherty & Collins Properties is working as the developer on the project, with Columbus-based ArchAll Architects working on its design.
The Peninsula Project Phase II was announced to include a Pins Mechanical Co., grocery store, as well as other business and residential features:
- 150,000 square feet of office space
- At least 300 new residential units, including a 20-story tower
- A 120-key hotel, operated by the existing “independent lifestyle hotel” the Junto
- A 400-space city-owned parking garage
As of August, the group of developers behind the overall Peninsula Project Phase II, which includes the Daimler Group, Rockbridge Capital, and Flaherty & Collins, planned to begin the second phase of construction late this year. They projected it would be finished by 2027.
