COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A man who pleaded guilty to fatally shooting his live-in girlfriend will serve at least the next 15 years in prison.
Sinnea Thomas was sentenced to a minimum 15 years in prison during a Wednesday morning hearing in Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. Thomas, 51, pleaded guilty to killing his girlfriend, Tamieka Ross on Jan. 8, 2023 in the Hilltop neighborhood.
Thomas could face a maximum sentence of life in prison and took full responsibility to the shooting in a letter he read in the courtroom on Wednesday. In the letter Thomas admitted to shooting Ross nine times, according to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office.
Thomas and Ross had been arguing throughout the day, police said, before the two began to fight and shots were fired. Columbus Fire Department EMS responded to the 700 block of Butler Avenue and pronounced Ross dead at 5:19 p.m.
Thomas originally left the scene, but surrendered at police headquarters later that night. He pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder, but one month ago changed his plea to guilty one one count of murder
