COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The historic Thurber House, a nonprofit literary arts center and museum long rumored to be haunted, has opened its doors for a series of ghost tours and paranormal investigations, allowing visitors to explore reported supernatural activity firsthand.

The events, hosted by Columbus Ghost Tours, a company that provides several haunted excursions across the city, will take place at 77 Jefferson Ave. in Columbus, on select evenings. The next event is scheduled for Saturday, March 22, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

“We’re excited to renew our partnership with The Thurber House,” the ghost-hunting organization said in a social media post. “When we stopped here on a tour in 2018, one guest got a pic of a shadow figure and another made a connection with the spirit of an older woman in the house.”

A video included with the post provided additional details about the house’s creepy background. Founder and co-owner of Columbus Ghost Tours, E.R. “Bucky” Cutright, appears outside Thurber House in the spooky dusk of twilight with his message to fans of the paranormal.

“This house was featured in 2010 on SyFy channel’s, ‘Ghost Hunters’ and pretty much every staff member here has had an experience with a paranormal while working in the building, if not multiple experiences,” Cutright said in the clip. “So it’s a very active location.”

The evenings begin with a guided tour of the house, once home to writer and cartoonist James Thurber. Following the tour, guests can conduct their own paranormal investigation using specialized equipment. Columbus Ghost Tours noted that it has a limited number of devices available.

Columbus Ghost Tours added that the tours and investigations will help support the Thurber House, which has faced financial challenges. Tickets can be purchased online at columbusghosttours.com, and more information about other Thurber House events can be found at thurberhouse.org.
