COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Two teenagers have been arrested after a third was shot and killed Sunday evening in South Linden.
According to Columbus police two teens, ages 15 and 16, were arrested by a CPD SWAT unit Tuesday morning and are being held at the Juvenile Detention Center. Both suspects are charged with murder in the death of 14-year-old Lorenzio Galloway Jr., who was pronounced Sunday evening at 8:20 p.m.
Police say officers were called to a traffic crash at the intersection of East 12th Avenue and Cleveland Avenue at around 7:45 p.m., when Galloway Jr. was found suffering from a gunshot wound while in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died.
Given the serious nature of the allegations, Magistrate Woodrow Hudson said both teens will remain in the Juvenile Intervention Center, with both scheduled to be back in court on April 22.
A prosecutor in the case requested additional gun charges be filed against both teens, alleging that they had or used a firearm to commit the crime. Hudson granted the request.
According to the Franklin County of Common Pleas electronic monitoring team, one of the teen suspects was ordered to wear an electronic monitor on Feb. 27, but on March 11, he removed the monitor; a warrant was then issued for his arrest.
The public defender for one of the teens brought up the possibility her client may not be involved in the crime.
“It is my understanding that another juvenile confessed to this offense last night,” defense attorney Helena D’Arms said. “I don’t know if the state is in possession of that information.”
Homicide detectives were called to investigate and have not yet reported what led to the shooting. Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is asked to call the CPD Homicide Unit at (614) 645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-TIPS (8477).
