COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Three people are dead and three others are hospitalized after a crash in southeast Columbus.

Columbus police said the three-car crash happened on the 3300 block of Refugee Road at approximately 8:05 p.m. According to a CPD report, a woman driving a 2015 Kia Optima was traveling westbound on Refugee Road, west of Schwartz Road, when she was struck in the rear of the car by a man driving a 2007 Honda Pilot.

The Honda then traveled left of center and hit a 2008 Nissan Quest head-on, which was heading east on Refugee Road. The Honda flipped onto its roof and the driver, identified in the crash report as 33-year-old Gustavo Roman, was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Roman was later pronounced dead by medical center staff.

A female passenger in the Honda, identified as 30-year-old Chelsey Radcliff, was pronounced dead at the scene, as was the driver of the Nissan, 35-year-old man Henry Del Cid Mejia. Three children, one girl and two boys who were passengers in the Honda, were taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

All are listed in stable condition with a crash report from the Ohio Department of Public Safety stating all three children are under the age of 10, with the the youngest being five.

The driver of the Kia, along with a 14-year-old boy and 6-year-old boy, were uninjured during the crash.

A portion of Refugee Road in the area of Schwartz Road and Winchester Pike was blocked off as police investigate the cause of the crash.
