COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Two more men convicted for their part in a large-scale drug and sex trafficking ring that operated near a Columbus elementary school have each received lengthy federal prison sentences.
35-year-old Dustin Speakman and 31-year Tyler Bourdo, two of the 23 defendants charged in this large drug ring that operated between 2008 and 2022, have each received a sentence of at least 23 years in prison. Speakman received a 23-year sentence and Bourdo a 25-year sentence.
Each pleaded guilty in March 2024 to conspiracy to distribute drugs near an elementary school while Bourdo was also charged with distributing drugs that resulted in death and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking, according to acting U.S. Attorney Kelly Norris of the Southern District of Ohio.
Court documents said that Speakman joined the organization in 2022 after getting out of jail. He is said to have distributed drugs out of houses on South Ogden Avenue and South Warren Ave. in the Hilltop neighborhood.
He admitted in court to severely beating a drug runner in May of 2022 and giving him free cocaine and fentanyl afterwards as compensation. The victim died as a result of overdosing on those narcotics.
According to court documents, Bourdo oversaw operations at houses on North Warren Avenue and gave property owners illegal drugs to continue using the houses. A woman who was given drugs in one of those houses died in October 2021 with video surveillance revealing Bourdo taking the woman’s phone after she died.
He admitted during his plea agreement to coercing women into sex acts by using violence or withholding drugs and lodging to them.
NBC4 previously reported that federal officers arrested eight men and three women who were all charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute drugs over two years. In total agents seized $1.5 million in cash, 44 firearms, seven vehicles and a motorcycle.
