CLEVELAND (WCMH) — A woman has been booked in jail in northeast Ohio several days after a five-year-old was found dead in Columbus after being abducted, which triggered a statewide Amber Alert.
Pammy Maye, 48, was booked into a Cuyahoga County jail Sunday afternoon on a fugitive warrant. According to Columbus Division of Police Chief Elaine Bryant, Maye is expected to be charged with murder. Columbus police last week clarified they expect Maye to be returned to Franklin County.
As of Monday afternoon, Maye has not been charged in Franklin County Common Pleas Court and previous charges of kidnapping and child endangerment in Franklin County Municipal Court have been dropped in anticipation they would be refiled in common pleas court.
On Feb. 14, a statewide Amber Alert was triggered when Columbus police first learned Taylor was missing early that morning when Maye’s husband called 911 saying his wife killed the boy. The Mayes were Taylor’s legal custodians.
Maye was located by Brooklyn police near Cleveland on Feb. 15 and she provided the location of Taylor’s body. Bryant said on Feb. 16 that police located what they believed to be Taylor’s body shortly after 1 a.m. in the 1000 block of Marsdale Avenue, on Columbus’ Southwest Side.
The Franklin County Children’s Services said Taylor first came to their attention in March 2022, when there was a physical abuse or neglect referral. It is unclear whose care Taylor was in at the time of this referral. Taylor was referred to multiple service agencies, including behavioral health at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and case management, according to children’s services.
NBC4 reached out to Franklin County Children’s Services to ask about Maye’s relationship to Taylor and his biological parents, but they have not yet responded. The agency said more specific information on Taylor’s case is not being released at this time.
