Crash involving multiple vehicles, CPD officer closes I-70 westbound on west side for hours

COLUMBUS (WCMH)– Columbus Police closed I-70 westbound for hours west of I-270 on the west side due to a multi-vehicle accident.

The accident was reported around 12:14am Tuesday morning. The freeway reopened shortly before 4:30am.


According to the Columbus Division of Police, Officer Robert Perry had stopped a vehicle for speeding in a construction zone, when a semi-truck was cut off by another vehicle, causing the semi-truck to crash into Perry’s cruiser.

Perry sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Doctor’s West Hospital for evaluation.

The other drivers involved in the crash were treated at the scene.

Perry’s cruiser received significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.
