Firefighters in Athens have stopped for the day in their search for a man who went missing in the Hocking River Saturday night.

According to the Athens County Emergency Management Agency, the Athens Fire Department was dispatched to 2 Whites Mill Drive around 8pm on the report that a 29-year-old man jumped in the Hocking River and was swept downstream.

First responders did not find any sign of the man and dispatched rescue boats to search the river.

As of Sunday evening, the man is still missing. The Athens Fire Department is being aided by multiple regional emergency agencies.

The man is described as a 29-year-old white male wearing black shorts and no shirt or shoes.
