COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A report of a bizarre find on the side of a residential street had social media buzzing in hopes the discovery could help solve a cold case crime.
In an online post, a woman informed neighbors of the strange items she uncovered while picking up litter along West Case Road in early February.
“I found a plastic bag containing a black, long-haired wig, black sunglasses, a pink baseball hat, and four cell phones,” the poster wrote. “This Meijer bag was near the Thatcher Rd., West Case Rd. intersection. The Columbus police now are in possession. Weird!”
Many commenters commended her for cleaning up the area, pointing to a noticeable increase in trash along the streets.
“I was driving on Sawmill yesterday, and the amount of litter and garbage was abominable,” responded one person. “I am ashamed to live in the vicinity. It is appalling.”
“Sounds suspicious,” relayed another commenter. “Interestingly enough, I did a big cleanup yesterday on W Case from Riverside eastward till about 5:00 pm… Thanks for helping out with picking up litter. It was bad.”
“I hope your actions inspire others to safely pick up trash and debris in their neighborhoods,” added another writer. “It goes a long way to improving the appearance and safety of our properties.”
While others expressed concern over the suspicious items and the crime-solving potential.
“There are thousands of cold and unsolved cases in Franklin County,” a commenter wrote. “Several locals are missing as of late. This may be a valuable find.”
“I’ll bet their forensics will be able to link it all to crimes,” offered another neighbor.
“Oh, I hope they solve a cold crime with the bag you found!” someone else communicated in the comments. “Thank you for being willing to do the dirty job of picking up trash along the roadside.”
Columbus police acknowledged that a bag was found on the side of the road and officers took a report; however, no other details were immediately available.
