COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus police are still working to piece together why a person drove their vehicle to Maryland Avenue and Merryhill Drive after being shot three times.
“Witnesses reported that several other people bailed out of the car after it stopped and left the shooting victim behind,” said Sgt. Dean Worthington with Columbus Police.
According to police, the shooting happened here inside this upstairs apartment on Granville Street and Taylor Avenue, just blocks away from where the victim was found in his car.
The resident who lives downstairs from where the shooting happened tells NBC4 he heard three gunshots ring out, followed by a person screaming, he then called 911.
“When they got here they did not find anybody inside the house,” said Worthington.
Investigators did find drug paraphernalia inside the apartment along with marijuana.
Columbus police robbery detectives were called to both to the home here on Granville and to where the wounded victim’s car was found. Police are not sure if this incident involved a possible robbery, but items found inside the home and the car allude to one.
“There were masks found inside the car and I believe there might have been a mask inside the car also. And there were also reports of zip ties inside the car.”
The person that was shot was taken to grant medical center in stable condition. Police say they are not sure if he is a suspect or a victim in this case.Keep checking NBC4i.com for real-time updates on this story.
