LANCASTER, Ohio (WCMH) — A former Fairfield County middle school coach has been arrested on suspicion of engaging in sexual activity with a student.

According to Fairfield County court records, Kory M. Ross, 34, the head wrestling coach and a track coach for Johnstown-Monroe Middle School, was charged with one count of sexual battery, a third-degree felony, on March 21.

Ross, of Pataskala, allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with a student between Sept. 21, 2023, and March 21, 2025, according to court records.

A letter from the Johnstown-Monroe Middle School superintendent said the abuse happened before Ross started working for the district.

“The allegations resulting in Mr. Ross’ arrest stem from events dating back to September 2023, prior to Ross’ employment by Johnstown-Monroe, and to our knowledge do not involve a Johnstown-Monroe student,” the letter states.

A spokesperson for the district said the alleged incident happened while Ross worked for a Fairfield school district.

According to the letter, Ross was hired by the district in October 2024. He is now on unpaid administrative leave.

Ross is scheduled to be in Fairfield County Court of Common Pleas on March 25.

According to the Ohio Department of Education, Ross currently has a 3-year Pupil Activity N/A Permit, which allows him to serve as a coach in Ohio schools.
